Cameroon Cowry shield

The Tikar shield has been traditionally used as a defensive weapon, displayed as a decorative or ritual symbol of status and wealth by the Tikar tribe in Cameroon. Hand-carved from one solid piece of wood, African shields are synonymous with the sense of the open veld, wildlife and the ancient history of Africa. This cowry shell shield is distinctly patterned with shells and metal on wood. A perfect wall decoration - on its own or paired with others. The shield is 34cm in diameter.
